I invite you to visit Egypt and I present a list of the most interesting places.
Cairo – the capital of Egypt and the biggest city, it houses egyptian museum, which is home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. Another interesting places is National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, which houses royal mummies.
Giza – is most famous as the location of the Giza Plateau, the most impressive ancient monuments in the world, including the Great Sphinx, the Great Pyramid of Giza, and a number of other large pyramids and temples. Opposite the pyramids there is Grand Egyptian Museum, which will be open soon.
Saqqara – the necropolis for the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. It contains numerous pyramids, including the first stone monument, the Step Pyramid of Djoser, and a number of mastaba tombs. It covers an area of around 7 by 1.5 km.
Memphis – it was the first capital of the Old Kingdom. Today it is an open-air museum, which houses dozens of relics and two of the most important statues are the Colossus of Ramesses II and the Alabaster Sphinx.
Dahshur – a royal necropolis south of Cairo. It is known for several pyramids, two of which are among the oldest, largest and best preserved in Egypt, built from 2613 to 2589 BC: Bent Pyramid, Red Pyramid.
Beni Hasan – an ancient Egyptian cemetery. While there are some Old Kingdom burials at the site, it was primarily used during the Middle Kingdom, spanning the 21st to 17th centuries BC.
Abydos – is notable for the mortuary temple of Seti I, which contains an inscription from the Nineteenth Dynasty known as the Abydos King List. This is a chronological list showing cartouches of most dynastic pharaohs of Egypt from Menes until Seti I’s father, Ramesses I.
Dendera – a small town south of Qena that contains the Dendera Temple complex, one of the best-preserved temple sites from Upper Egypt.
Luxor – is a modern city in Upper Egypt which includes the site of the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes. The „world’s greatest open-air museum”, contains the ruins of the Egyptian temple complexes: Karnak and Luxor Temple. There are also Luxor Museum, Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens, Ramesseum, Medinet Habu temple, tombs of nobles, Hatshepsut temple and other interesting monuments.
Esna – a city famous for the temple dedicated to the god Khnum.
Edfu – a city which is the site of the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus.
Kom Ombo – a city famous for the Kom Ombo temple, unique double temple. There is also the Museum of the Mumified Crocodiles.
Aswan – a city in Southern Egypt, includes Philae Temple Complex which has been relocated to Agilkia Island, there are the Old and Middle Kingdom tombs of Qubbet el-Hawa, the stone quarries and Unfinished Obelisk, you can visit also the Nubian Museum.
New Kalabsha – a site located near Aswan, created during the International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia, it houses important temples, structures, and other remains that have been relocated here: Kalabsha Temple, Gerf Hussein, Beit el-Wali, Kiosk of Qertassi.
New Wadi es-Sebua – a site, created during the International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia, which contains three ancient Egyptian temples, the temples of Wadi-es Sebua, Maharraqa and Dakka.
New Amada – a site located near Aswan, created during the International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia, it houses three important temples, structures, and other remains, that have been relocated here: Amada Temple, Temple of Derr, Tomb of Pennut.
Abu Simbel – a historic site comprising two massive rock-cut temples built by the pharaoh Ramesses II: Great Temple of Ramesses II and Temple of Nefertari.
